The Stream companion is an application used to manage your books, music, podcasts, audio notes and audio bookmarks.
Use the Stream Companion to copy your books, music, and podcasts to your storage card. The Stream Companion can also be used to remove these same files from the storage card.
The Stream Companion can also convert your Stream's audio notes and Audio Bookmarks to WAV files you can use on your computer. It can also be used to remove Audio Notes and Audio Bookmarks from your storage card and remove converted WAV files from your computer.
To copy content from your computer or convert the Audio Notes or Audio Bookmarks, you will need to connect the Stream to the computer or load the Stream's SD card into your computer's card reader.
The Stream Companion main window has eight tabs: Talking Books, Other Books, Audible, Music, Podcasts, Text files, Audio Notes and Audio Bookmarks. Each of these tabs is divided into two sections. The top portion is dedicated to the content located at a selected location on the computer while the lower portion corresponds to the content found on the Stream's storage card. Each section is itself divided into three columns. The first column lists file names, the second displays the status of each file and the third provides the file storage size. Compressed zipped files on the computer will not appear on the Content on PC list unless they are first unzipped to a subfolder within the specified location. The Talking books tab has an option that allows you to see zip files. Check the Include Zip Files box to have Zip files appear in the list.
NOTE: To simplify the text, the generic term "content" will be used to represent common elements that apply to all tabs. For example, this user guide will use the term "Content on PC window" to indicate the Talking Books on PC window, the Other Books on PC window and so on depending on the selected tab. The word "content" may be substituted for the currently selected tab.
Use the Tab key or shortcut keys to navigate the controls on the screen. Use Control Tab to switch from tab to tab. The Select Storage card option allows you to specify the storage card location, whether it is in your Stream connected to your computer or in a card reader. The Space on Storage card before operation and Space on Storage card after operation are used to determine the space that is currently on the Storage card and the space that will be left after transferring or removing files.
Specify the location on your computer of the content you wish to copy to the Storage card. The current location is listed in the PC content location. To look for files in a different location, use the Browse PC button. To transfer content found on a CD, browse to your CD drive. Note that you can obtain additional information on any Talking Book on your computer found under the Talking Books tab by pressing Alt + Enter. Both the Music and Podcasts tabs have a Switch to file / folder view button allowing you to browse on your computer for individual files or folders.
Use the keyboard arrows to browse the content list at the specified location. To select a file, press the Spacebar. When selected, the status of the file, indicated in the second column, will change from Not Selected to Selected for transfer. Note that the Space on Storage card after operation value will be modified according to the size of the file. To copy the selected files to your Stream's storage card, use the Transfer/Remove Selected content button or simply press Enter while in the list of files because the Transfer/Remove button is the default button. A Progress window will provide an estimate of the time required for the operation to complete. A beeping sound every 10 seconds will be heard during the process to indicate that the transfer is underway. When finished, you will be informed that the transfer was successful. The transferred content is now listed in the Content on Storage Card section.
Note: If you attempt to transfer content that is already on the storage card you will be asked to confirm if you want to proceed. If you continue, the content already on the storage card will be replaced. The files will be transferred to their respective subfolders within the appropriate bookshelves.
Use the Select Storage Card combo drop down to specify the location of your storage card. The content found will be listed in the Content on Storage Card section.
Use the keyboard arrows to browse the list of files on the storage card. To make a selection, press the Spacebar. An information window will appear asking you to confirm the deletion. When finished, you will be informed that the files have been deleted. The deleted files are no longer listed in the Content on storage card section.

When you exit Stream Companion you are placed in the Windows Safely Remove Hardware dialog. The Stream will appear in the list of Hardware devices as a USB Mass Storage Device. If there is more than one device connected to your computer, use the arrows to make your selection. Use the Tab key to activate the STOP device button. This notifies Windows that you want to stop your card reader device so you can safely remove the SD card. Select OK to confirm that you want to Stop the device. Windows will then tell you it is safe to remove the SD card. If you wish to exit Stream Companion and leave the SD card active you can simply exit the Safely Remove Dialog without stopping the device.
