Scan And Say

I would like to introduce myself as well as an amazing product that I helped to develop. I represent RVB Systems Group, a small barcode consulting company. Several months ago, I was approached by a gentleman via the internet. He told me that his wife was blind and he wanted to know if I would develop a "talking barcode system" for her which would announce the descriptions of products in her pantry. I told him that several products were already on the market to do just that. He said he was aware of them, but they were either too difficult to use or very expensive.

Together with a fellow programmer who is blind, we developed Scan and Say , a talking barcode system for the visually impaired. Scan and Say runs on any Windows based PC and includes descriptions for over 250,000 grocery items. You can easily change existing descriptions or add new items.

Scan and Say is provided with a heavy duty omni-directional barcode scanner (like the ones in grocery stores) that allows even totally blind individuals to easily scan a product's barcode. Merely wave the item in front of the scanner and you hear the item's description on your PC's speakers.

Scan and Say comes with 500 pre-printed adhesive-backed barcode labels for items that may not have barcodes, such as office files.

The scanner, which comes with a one year factory warranty, has a mountable stand or it can be held in your hand. It has a 15 foot USB cable that you connect to either a desk-top or laptop PC. Scan and Say was developed using Microsoft Access. If you do not have Access on your PC, you can install the run-time version of Access which is included on the Scan and Say CD.

You can build a shopping list (which Scan and Say reads aloud), time-stamp items (examples include a product's expiration date or when a medication was last taken), and place items in categories. You can add as many categories as you wish. You can change an item's description to contain up to 64,000 characters. The database can store 2 gigabytes of data (that's over a billion products). An audio manual is included. Best of all, Scan and SayT is priced at only $595. Scan and Say has been tested with all popular screen readers, but a screen reader is not required. I'd be delighted to send anyone interested a free demo of Scan and Say. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Regards,
