The Pop Up Control programs listed here work well with Screen Readers and one is free.
This free version of Pop Up Stopper works quite well. Just follow these
directions to install and run.
There are only four steps to installing Pop up Stopper. With the exception
of the third screen it's simply next, next and next. The third screen asks
you to select where you want the Icons placed. For most computers the
default would be accessories and that would be fine. You should, however Tab
through the choices to make sure yours is on Accessories before selecting
next.
When the installation is completed you will be presented with a wizard.
Clicking next on it takes you to a simple e-mail registration window. When
you complete this the installation process is complete.
Two Icons will be placed on your Desk Top. One is the usual Pop Up Stopper Icon. The second is the Pop Up Stopper Control Center. This one will take you directly to their web page.
You will also find a Icon in your System Tray. Clicking on this will open a context menu with several choices. Click on the Preference choice to set your choices.
Clicking on Preferences will give you access to three tabs, Start Up
Notification and Update. The notification Tab will allow you to decide if
you want a sound played when a pop up window is stopped. Check the box to
do this. There is a select button directly below the window and clicking on
this will open a selection window. Right arrow to open the choices and
select the sound you want and press Enter on it. A test button is provided
to let you hear the sound. Repeat the process to change it. There are a
couple of more choices you may make about a cursor change and so on, all are
quite simple and are selected or not by means of a checkbox.
When finished click Ok and that's it.
If you encounter a situation in which you don't want it to block a pop up window, you merely hold down the shift key, before pressing Enter on the link. You may also easly disable it by simply clicking on the icon in the System Tray.
Panic Ware WebsiteIt appears that this program works quite well and may be the simpler of the two to install and run. This program offers a free 15 Day trial, but must be purchased. The cost is approximately $20.00. Simply go to their website and click on Free Trial version.
