Moving Files

How To Move Files From One Folder To Another
Moving Files From Location to Location

You can move files around in much the same manner as you can move text in documents. Just follow the steps below.

1. When you open a new folder the Screen Reader will say either " unselected or not selected". You may select a single file by either tapping the Space Bar or using the Arrow key to move to the file you wish to select. If you only wish to move this one item you may skip to step 6.

2. It is possible to move multiple files at the same time. To accomplish this first, using the arrow keys move to the first file in your list. Now press the Control key and hold it down until you have finished selecting all your files.

3. Tap the Space Bar on each file you wish to include. The files need not be consecutive as only those you tap the Space Bar on will be selected.

4. When you have selected all the files you wish to choose, release the Control key. Note: After releasing the Control key do not touch any keys, other than those mentioned in steps 5 and 6, or you will unselect the items you have chosen.

5. Both Screen Readers can give you a summary of the files you have selected. To do this with Window Eyes press Control-Shift and S. For Jaws press insert-shift number-pad 2. The Screen Reader will read the names of the selected files.

6. You are now ready to move the selected files. Use Control-C if you wish to copy them and also leave them in the current location. Control-X will cut them from this location and they will only be found in the new spot. If you choose to you may delete them by pressing the Delete key. Any selected item would be deleted by doing this, so be careful.

7. Close the current folder and go to the location where you plan on putting them.

8. Now open the new folder and use Control-V to paste the file or files into it.

Close the folder and you're finished.
