2 Quick Start

The Kyocera 2345 phone has a standard phone keypad plus six function keys for turning the phone on and off, making and ending calls, and navigating through menus.

On the top right edge of the phone is the antenna, which sits within the antenna housing. On the top of the housing sits a flat, button-shaped cap. This is the top of the antenna. Pull this out to full extension when you make or answer a call.

The earpiece is located on the face of the phone, at the top. You can feel three small holes on a raised setting.

Below the earpiece is the rectangular screen, and below the screen are the six function keys: The Talk key, the Left/Right Navigation key, the End key, the OK key, the Up/Down Navigation key, and the End key.

There are two Navigation keys on your phone. Directly below the screen sits the Left/Right Navigation key. This key is horizontally placed and is long and thin with raised ends. This navigation key moves you through the menus left and right. This key functions in much the same way as arrow keys on a computer keyboard for moving left and right through the phone's top-level menus. To move left, press the left raised edge of the Navigation key. To press right, press the right raised edge of the Navigation key.

The Up/Down Navigation key is located directly below the Left/Right Navigation key on your phone and sits between the OK and Clear keys. The Up/Down Navigation key is an oval shape with raised tips on the top and bottom. This navigation key moves you up and down through the menu options. This key functions in much the same way as arrow keys on a computer keyboard for moving up and down through the phone's menus. To move down, press the bottom raised edge of the Up/Down Navigation key. To press up, press the top raised edge of the Up/Down Navigation key.

The Talk key is located on the left edge of the phone. It's a long key, shaped similar to an incisor tooth.

The End key is located along the right edge of the phone. It's a long key, shaped similar to an incisor tooth. This key is the same shape as the Talk key.

The OK key is a small, round button-shaped key located on the left side of the phone between the Talk and Up/Down Navigation keys. It makes a high-pitched beep when pressed.

The Clear key is a small, round button-shaped key located on the right side of the phone between the Up/Down Navigation and End keys.

Below the keys described above, there are four rows of keys that comprise a standard phone keypad. These keys make DTMF tones when pressed. There is a small bump or nib on either side of the 5 key.

Two jacks are located on the bottom of the phone: a rectangular one on the left and a small, round one on the right. The small, round one is the jack for the adapter charger included with the phone. The rectangular jack is for the data cable, sold separately.

A small, round jack is located on the top left side of the phone. This is for the headset (sold separately).

2.1 Turn On the Phone

Press the End key. Several seconds later, a triple high beep sounds when the phone powers on. In approximately five more seconds, the phone enters standby mode and is ready to use. The keys emit DTMF tones when pressed.

Note: If your keys do not make DTMF tones, the keyguard may be on. Press the number keys 1 2 3 in sequence. If a DTMF tone sounds when you press the 3 key, then you just unlocked the keypad and the phone is now standby mode and ready to use. (Note: Sometimes the DTMF tone for number key 3 sounds twice in rapid succession when you unlock the keypad.).

2.2 Turn Off the Phone

Press and hold the End key for several seconds. You will hear an initial beep when you first press the key. Do not release the key until you hear a second higher-pitched beep.

2.3 Make a Call

Your phone must be turned on before you can use it. When the phone is off, incoming calls go to voicemail (if voicemail is set up). Refer to Section 2.7 to set up Voicemail.

1. Fully extend the antenna.
2. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode (idle state).
3. Enter the phone number on the keypad.
4. Press the Talk key.

2.4 Answer a Call

When the phone rings, extend the antenna and press the Talk key to answer.

2.5 End a Call

Briefly press the End key. It will beep once.

Note: Make sure you press the End key briefly. The phone will turn off if you press and hold down the End key.

2.6 Use the Speakerphone

The speakerphone can only be used for the current call.
To turn on the speakerphone during a call:
1. Press the Navigation key left once to highlight the Speakerphone Icon.
2. Press OK to select it.
3. Lay the phone down and converse as normal.

4. To adjust the volume during the call, press the Navigation key up to increase the volume, or down to decrease the volume. This setting lasts only for the current call.

2.7 Set Up Voicemail

All unanswered calls to your Kyocera 2345 are automatically transferred to voicemail, even if your phone is in use or turned off. To avoid missing any important messages, set up your Sprint PCS voicemail box and personal greeting as soon as your Sprint PCS Phone is activated.

To set up voicemail, follow these steps:
1. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.
2. Press and hold the 1 key for approximately two seconds. This speed dials the Sprint voicemail access number.

3. Follow the system prompts to create a password, record a greeting, record your name announcement and choose whether to activate One-Touch Message Access (a feature that lets you press one key to access messages and bypasses the need for you to enter your passcode).

Note: The voicemail setup process may vary in certain affiliate areas. If you have problems, please contact Sprint PCS.

2.8 Retrieve Voicemail Messages Using Your Mobile phone

Note that you are charged airtime minutes when you're accessing your messages from Sprint PCS.
1. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.
2. Press and hold the 1 key. This key speed dials Sprint's voicemail access number.
3. Follow the system prompts.
To set your phone to alert you when you have voicemail messages, refer to Section 5.4.2, Set a Voicemail Message Alert.

2.9 Retrieve Voicemail Messages From a Phone Other Than Your Mobile

1. Dial your Sprint PCS phone number.
2. When the voicemail system answers, press the Star key.
3. Enter your passcode to retrieve your messages.

2.10 Accessible Settings

We suggest that your phone be set to the following three settings for accessibility.
1. Set the Main Menu View to the Large Icons setting. See Section 3.7.2 for instructions.
2. Make sure Silence All mode is turned OFF. See Section 5.1.9 for instructions.

3. Set a shortcut to the Ringer Volume setting, (refer to Section 5.1.2), to the Voice Shortcuts setting (refer to Section 9.6), or to the Voice Memo setting (refer to Section 9.7.1).

3 Getting to Know Your Phone
This section describes the features and use of your phone in detail.

3.1 Phone Features and Specifications

Trimode: This phone operates in three modes, to keep you connected virtually anywhere. The modes are CDMA digital service at 800 and 1900 megahertz, and analog service at 800 megahertz. CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access, the standard for digital communications developed by QUALCOMM Incorporated.

Features: Phone features include vibration alert; audible alerts for missed calls, voicemail, roaming, and loss or gain of service; speakerphone; 25 standard ringer tones and songs including separate ringers for business and personal callers; voice shortcuts, voice-activated calling, and voice memos; alarm clock; countdown timer; and two-way short messaging service for sending and receiving text messages.

3.2 Safe Operating Instructions

Read these cautions before you use the phone.

If you have a pacemaker, keep the phone at least 6 inches (15 centimeters) away from your chest. If your phone is too close to a pacemaker, its radio frequency (RF) energy may interfere with the pacemaker. If you have any reason to suspect a problem, turn off your phone immediately. See the Section 15, Acknowledging Special Precautions and the FCC Notice, of this document for more information about RF energy.

Only use Kyocera-approved accessories with Kyocera phones. Use of any unauthorized accessories may be dangerous and will invalidate the phone warranty if the accessories cause damage to the phone. To order accessories, contact your service provider or contact the Kyocera Wireless Corp. Accessory Store by phone at 800 349 4188 or 858 882 1410 or online at www.kyocera-wireless.com.

3.3 Avoid Making Accidental Phone Calls

If you carry your phone in a pocket or purse, activate keyguard to prevent pressing keys accidentally. To activate keyguard, press and hold the Navigation key left until it has beeped twice; once with the initial keypress and then a double beep indicating the feature is enabled. When the keypad is locked you cannot use it for anything except answering a call, and the keys will not make a sound when you press them.

To unlock the keypad, dial the number keys 1 2 3 in sequence. When you press the 3 key, the DTMF tone sounds. The keypad is unlocked and the phone is in standby mode.

3.4 Icons on the Screen

For your information, we will describe the icons that appear on the phone's five-line screen (from left to right).
The D (Digital Mode) icon means the phone is operating in CDMA digital mode. There is no sound associated with this icon.

The Signal Strength icon (an antenna with up to four vertical lines) indicates the current signal strength. The more vertical lines that appear, the stronger the signal. When the Signal Strength icon is on the screen, you can make and receive calls. There is no sound associated with this icon.

The No Signal icon (a phone receiver with a line through it) means that your phone is not receiving a signal from the system. You cannot make or receive calls. Wait a little longer or move to a different location. You can set an audible alert to notify you when you move in or out of the service area. Refer to Section 5.4.3, Set The Roam/Service Alert.

The On Call icon (a phone receiver) means that a call is in progress.
The Bell icon indicates that the alarm clock has been set.
The Silence icon (a bell with a line through it) indicates that the phone ringer has been silenced and the phone will vibrate or light up instead of ringing.

The R (Roaming) icon means the phone is outside of its home area. You can set an audio alert to notify you when you move in or out of your service area. Refer to Section 5.4.3, Set The Roam/Service Alert. When the alert is turned on, a two-tone beep sounds each time you enter or exit your home area. The beep when you exit goes from a higher tone to a lower tone, and the beep when you reenter goes from the lower tone to the higher tone.

The Envelope icon means that you have received a text message, voicemail, or page. When this icon first appears, your phone will beep four times. If you have the message alert turned on, you will also hear a single reminder beep every five minutes. To set the message alert, refer to 5.4.2, Set a Voicemail Message Alert.

The Battery Charge icon (a battery with diagonal black bars) shows how much power remains in the battery. The more black bars there are, the greater the charge. When your battery charge is very low, the phone beeps, the icon on screen blinks, and a text message appears on the screen warning you that the battery level is low.

3.5 Physical Features of Your Phone

Hold the phone with the keypad facing you and notice the following features.

3.5.1 Antenna

The antenna is on the top edge of the phone. Always extend the antenna while making or receiving a call for the best reception.

3.5.2 Headset Jack

The jack for a headset is located on the top left side of the phone.

3.5.3 Charging Jacks

The jacks for the data cable and AC adapter charger are located on the bottom edge of the phone. The rectangular jack on the left is for the data cable (sold separately). The small, round jack on the right is for the AC adapter charger (included with the phone).

3.5.4 Earpiece

The earpiece is on the front of the phone above the screen. Three small holes sit within a raised portion at the top of the faceplate.

3.5.5 Microphone

The microphone is located just below the last row of keys slightly to the right. It is a very small hole in the faceplate.

3.5.6 Keypad Descriptions

Use the Clear key to back up through menu options one option at a time. Press and hold the Clear key to return to standby mode. It will beep once if you backed up once. It will beep twice if you backed up to standby mode.

Use the Clear key like a backspace key on a computer: Press it once to erase the last key you pressed or press and hold it to erase all the characters you just entered or dialed. When you press and hold it, the phone will make one low beep, then one high beep. After the second beep, all characters have been erased.

Below the function keys in rows 3 through 6 are oval keys in the standard numeric telephone layout. There is a small bump or "nib" on each side of the 5 key. The number keys emit DTMF tones. If the keys don't make sounds when you press them, the phone power may be off, the keypad may be locked, the Silence All sounds setting may be on, or the Key Beeps setting may be turned off. For troubleshooting help, refer to Section 11.

The star key, the far left key in the last row of keys (far left), functions as a Shift key. It is used to change letter case from lower case to capitals while entering text in a text message or contact name, and to activate call forwarding.

The pound key, the far right key in the last row of keys (far right), functions as the Space key. This key is used to add a space while entering text.

2. Remove the back cover of the phone. Hold the phone face-down in your hand. On the back of the phone is an indentation for your thumb. Press down on the indentation toward the bottom of the phone. The back cover will pop open. Pull the back cover down and away from the phone.

3. Turn the phone over and let the battery fall out into your free hand.

3.6.4 Charge the Battery

Connect the AC adapter that came with your phone to the small round jack located on the right side of the bottom of the phone. Press until it snaps into place. Then connect the adapter plug to a wall outlet.

If you are using a charging accessory that has a serial connector (a plug with a row of pins), insert the connector into the rectangular jack on the bottom of the phone. (Such accessories are not provided with the phone but may be available through Kyocera Wireless Corp. or your service provider.)

Note: The battery charges faster when the phone is turned off.

3.6.5 Battery Power Levels

The battery must have at least a partial charge before you can make or receive calls, even if it's connected to the AC adapter.

A battery icon on the screen indicates the battery level. When the battery is fully charged, the icon is filled with black bars and the message "Charging is complete" appears on the screen. No sound is associated with this message.

When the battery is very low, the icon blinks on the screen, and a text message appears on the screen warning about the low battery level.

When the battery is drained, the phone beeps several times and shuts off immediately.

You can extend battery life by turning off backlighting. Backlighting causes the screen and perimeter of the keys to light up when a key is pressed.

3.6.6 Turn Off Backlighting to Save Battery Charge

To turn off backlighting, take these steps.
1. To make sure the phone is in standby mode (idle state), press once briefly on the End key.
2. Press OK once to select Menu. The phone beeps once.
3. Press the Right/Left Navigation key right four times, then press OK to select the Settings menu.
4. Press the Up/Down Navigation key down five times, then press OK to select the Display menu.
5. Press OK to select the Backlighting menu.
6. Press OK again to select the first item in the list, "Disabled."
7. Briefly press the End key once to return to standby mode.

3.6.7 Battery Care

Use only Sprint PCS-approved batteries and chargers. These chargers are designed to maximize battery life. Using other batteries or chargers voids your warranty and may cause damage.

To avoid damage, charge the battery only in temperatures that range from 41º F to 113º F (5º C to 45º C). Don't use the battery charger in direct sunlight or in high humidity areas, such as the bathroom. Never dispose of the battery by incineration. Keep the metal contacts on top of the battery clean. Don't attempt to disassemble or short-circuit the battery. Recharge the battery if it has not been used for a long period of time. Replace the battery when it no longer provides acceptable performance. It can be recharged hundreds of times before it needs replacing. Don't store the battery in high temperature areas for long periods of time. It's best to follow these storage rules: Less than one month: 4º F to 140º F (-20º C to 60º C) More than one month: 4º F to 113º F (-20º C to 45º C)

3.6.8 Disposal of Lithium Ion (LiIon) Batteries

For safe disposal options of your LiIon batteries, contact your nearest Sprint PCS-authorized service center. Be sure to dispose of your battery properly. In some areas, the disposal of batteries in household or business trash may be prohibited.

3.7 Navigate Through Menus

Important: The way your display settings are set up affects which direction you must press the Navigation keys to select menu items. We suggest you read this section before proceeding through the manual.

Your Kyocera 2345 phone has an extensive menu structure. Most of these menus must be accessed using the two Navigation keys. The top-level menus are the main sections of the phone software. They are called Contacts, Messages, Wireless Web, Recent Calls, Settings, Tools & Games, and Phone Info. Most top-level menus contain submenus, some of which contain more lists and menus. For a description of all menus and options in sequence, refer to Section 10, Menus.

3.7.1 Top-Level Menu Navigation

To make sure the phone is in standby mode, briefly press the End key once. To reach the top-level menus, press OK once. The top-level menus are now active; when you press the Navigation keys up, down, left, or right, you will move through or select menus. How you access menus depends on the menu display setting of your phone.

Your phone has three menu display settings: Large Icons, Small Icons, and List Menus. We do not use of describe Small Icons in this manual. These settings determine how you navigate between the top-level menus and how they are presented on the screen. (Procedures in this book are written assuming your phone is set to the Large Icons setting.) These settings are described here.

Large Icons Settings:

This section describes how to navigate through menus when your phone is set to the Large Icons setting. This setting allows you to access menus in much the same way as you do in a Microsoft Windows application. Press the Navigation keys to the right or left to access the top-level menus; then press down or up to access submenus.

From standby mode you press OK once to select Menu. The key beeps. You are then at the first option in the list of top-level menus. This menu option is called Contacts.

To move to the next top-level menu (Messages), press the Navigation key right briefly once. The phone beeps once. Repeat to go to the next menu. If you press and hold instead of pressing briefly, the phone will beep once, but you will move rapidly through multiple menus without hearing subsequent beeps.

To return to the previous menu, press the Navigation key left briefly once. Repeat to return to the menu before that one.

As you press the Navigation key left or right, the top-level menus loop continuously. That is, when you reach the end of the list, the phone starts again at the first menu. To find the beginning of the list of top-level menus, briefly press the End key once to exit. The key will beep. Then Press OK to select Menu. It will emit a high-pitched beep once. You are now at the first top-level menu (Contacts) again.

List Menus Setting:

This section describes how to navigate through menus when your phone is set to the List Menus setting. (Note: Directions in this user's guide are written for phones set to the large Icons setting, not the List Menus setting.)

Using the List Menus setting, you press OK once to select Menu. The phone beeps once. You are then at the first option in the list of top-level menus. This option is called Contacts.

To move to the next menu, press the bottom portion of the Navigation key down (toward the bottom of the phone) briefly once. The phone will beep once. Repeat to go to the next menu.

To back up to the previous menu, press the Navigation key up briefly once. Repeat to back up to the menu before that one, and so on.

If you press and hold the Navigation keys instead of pressing briefly, the phone beeps once each time you scroll past an option, but you will move rapidly through multiple menus. In List Menus setting, the list loops, meaning that you don't stop when you reach the end of the list of options.

To find the beginning of the list of top-level menus when you are using the List Menus setting, briefly press the End key to exit, then press OK to select Menu. You are now at the first top-level menu: Contacts.

3.7.2 Change the Menu Display Setting to Large Icons

Most phones are set to the Large Icons setting when you receive them. However, if your phone is set to the List Menus setting, take these steps to change it to the Large Icons setting.

1. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.
2. Press OK once to select Menu. The phone beeps once when you press the key.
3. Press the Navigation key down four times to move to the Settings menu. The key beeps each time you press it.
4. Press OK to select the Settings menu. It beeps once when you press it. A vertical list of options appears on the screen.
5. Press down five times to move to the Display option.
6. Press OK once to select the Display menu. The key will beep once.
7. Press the 5 key, then press OK to select Main Menu View.
8. Press down once, then press OK to select the "Large Icons" option.
9. Briefly press the End key once to return to standby mode. You will hear a single high-pitched beep.

3.8 Submenu Navigation

After you have selected a top-level menu such as Contacts or Settings, a vertical list of options appears on the screen. The first item is highlighted and ready to be selected.

To move to the next item in the list, press down briefly once. The phone beeps once for each keypress. If you press down and hold the key, the phone beeps each time you pass an option.

To back up through the list, press the Navigation key up.

When you reach the end or beginning of the list, the phone will make a high-pitched beep. If you are holding down the Navigation key to move through the list quickly, the phone will beep repeatedly when you reach the end or beginning of the list until you release the Navigation key.

3.9 Identify the Mode the Phone Is In

3.9.1 Standby Mode

When the phone is turned on but is not being used, it is usually in standby mode (its idle state). In this mode, the keys work and make sounds. From standby mode, you can dial a phone number, save a number in the phone book, or access a number that has been saved in the phone book. Briefly press the End key at any time to return to standby mode. Important: If you press the End key while on a call, you will end the call.

If you are unsure whether your phone is in standby mode, briefly press the End key once. If the phone beeps when you press the key, the phone is now in standby mode.

3.9.2 Power-Save Mode

When the phone is turned on and fails to locate a signal after 15 minutes, it switches to power-save mode. The words "Power Save Mode" and an icon of a phone with a line through it appear on the screen.

When the phone is in power-save mode, you cannot make or receive calls. When you press any key, the phone beeps and returns to standby mode. We recommend you briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.

3.10 Keyguard

Keyguard locks the phone keypad so that you don't accidentally press keys when you are not using the phone. When keyguard is on, the phone will make no sound when any key is pressed. You can answer an incoming call, but the keyguard remains on after the call ends.

If you are unsure whether the phone is turned off or keyguard is on, press the number keys 1 2 3 in sequence. If the phone makes no sound it is turned off. If a DTMF tone sounds after you press the 3 key in the 1 2 3 key sequence, you have turned off keyguard and returned to standby mode. If keyguard was activated automatically you return to the mode it was in when keyguard was activated,

Note: Sometimes the DTMF tone for the number 3 key sounds twice in rapid succession when you unlock the keypad.

3.10.1 Set Keyguard Manually

1. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.
2. Press and hold the Right/Left Navigation key left until you hear a third beep that indicates Keyguard is active. This setting remains on until you remove it using the 1 2 3 key sequence.

3.10.2 Set Keyguard to Automatically Activate

You can set your phone to go into keyguard mode automatically after it has been in standby mode and inactive for 30 seconds, 1 minute, or 5 minutes. Automatic keyguard helps you ensure that you do not accidentally dial a number.

Note: When you have automatic keyguard activated, the keypad may lock when you are in the middle of a task. For example, if you have entered three digits of a phone number and you hesitate to look up the remaining four digits, the keypad may lock. When you return to enter the four digits, the keypad makes no sound. Simply press 1 2 3, and the keypad will unlock and you will return to the mode you were in: The first three digits are still there, and you can then enter the remaining four digits to call the number. Likewise, if you have entered the menu structure when the keypad locks, you can press 1 2 3 to unlock it and you will be in the same part of the menus that you were in when it locked.

To activate or deactivate automatic keyguard, take the following steps:
1. Briefly press the End key once to make sure the phone is in standby mode.
2. Press OK once to select Menu.
3. Press the Navigation key right four times, then press OK to select the Settings menu.
4. Press down once, then press OK to select the Keyguard menu.

You have five options: Guard now: Activates the keyguard one time. It's the same as pressing and holding the Navigation key to the left. 30 second, 1 minute, and 5 minute auto-guard: Set the phone to lock the keypad any time it has been idle in standby mode for the designated amount of time. Auto-guard off: Returns the phone to the default setting, with no automatic keyguard. With the phone on this setting, you can still manually set the keyguard when you need it using the Navigation key.

5. Select an option (described above) as follows:
Guard now: Press OK once.
30-second auto-guard: Press down once, then press OK once.
1-minute auto-guard: Press down twice, then press OK once.
5-minute auto-guard: Press down three times, then press OK once.
Auto-guard off: Press down four times, then press OK once.
6. Briefly press the End key once to return to standby mode.

However, pressing left six times will ensure that you are at the lowest volume setting. Pressing the Navigation key right six times ensures you are at the highest setting.

6. Press OK when finished.
7. Press the End key to return to the home screen.

4.5 Speed Dialing

Speed dialing allows you to dial a stored phone number by pressing one or two keys corresponding to the phone number's speed dialing location, and then pressing the Talk key.

Once a number has been entered in the Contacts directory and a speed dial location has been assigned to it, you can speed dial the number. Note: Location 1 is reserved for voicemail access. Directions for saving a contact and adding a speed dial location are in Section 7.1, Save a New Contact.

The phone dials the contact and you should hear the ringing or busy signal in a few seconds.

4.7 Redial Phone Numbers

4.7.1 Redial the Last Number You Dialed

1. Briefly press the end key to make sure your phone is in standby mode.
2. Press the Talk key twice to redial.

4.7.2 Redial a Number From the Recent Calls List

Your phone saves a recent calls list, which includes the last fifteen phone numbers you called or received calls from, in the order they occurred. It includes numbers you may have dialed but hung up before anyone answered, and numbers of callers who made a connection with your phone but did not leave a voicemail message.

The most recent call is listed first. You can select and call any of the numbers in this list, with the exception of calls from phone numbers that have caller ID blocking enabled. Calls from blocked phone numbers are included in the list, but they appear as "Restricted" and cannot be called back.

7 Phone Book: Storing Contacts

The phone's Contacts directory stores up to 200 names and phone numbers. To set a speed dial location for or assign a voice tag to a phone number, you must save the phone number in the Contacts directory. You can also classify the phone number as business or personal, which allows you to set the phone to ring differently for these calls.

Note: While it is possible to save more than one phone number, in addition to a pager number or email address in a single contact, we recommend that you save each phone number or pager number as a single contact. This will allow you to look up the phone numbers more easily. This guide gives directions for saving contacts in the most accessible way: One phone number per contact, with a numeric name and a classification of Business or Personal.

7.1 Save a New Contact

Please follow all fifteen steps in these instructions to save your new contact.
1. Briefly press the End key to make sure the phone is in standby mode.

2. Using the numeric keypad, enter the phone number you want to save, including the area code. You do not need to enter a number 1 before the area code, but be sure to include the area code so that the phone number will be dialed correctly when you are roaming.

Note: If you want to erase the last character you entered, press the Clear key once per character. If you want to clear all the numbers you entered, briefly press the End key.

3. Press OK to select the Save New option. There will be one beep.

it is here that you will enter a name for your contact. We strongly recommend you enter a one- or two-digit number for your contact's name. This allows you to find the contact in the Contacts directory later by pressing the number keys. For example, if you enter your home phone number as a contact and you enter the number 2 as the contact name, you can search for it in the Contacts directory by pressing the 2 key. Once you have saved the contact named "2", you can assign the number 2 as the speed dial location for this contact, and then simply press and hold 2 to dial the number. Important: To search in the way described here, the Fast Find option must be activated. See Section 7.3.1.

For a sighted person, it is helpful to enter an alphabetical name, such as "Home," which they can later find by viewing the Contacts directory on the screen or by entering the letter "H." However, alphabetical text entry is cumbersome and does not make the Contacts directory accessible for those with visual impairments.

Note: If the number you have entered has already been saved in your Contacts directory, the message "Number is saved already. Save again?" appears on the screen. You will not be at the text entry screen. This screen can only be confirmed visually.

4. Enter your contact's name. To enter a number as a contact, press and hold the number key you want to use for 2 seconds.

To enter a second number, to use 23 as a contact name for example, press and hold the 2 key for two seconds, then press and hold the 3 key for two seconds.

5. When you have entered the numeric contact name, press OK to save the contact.
Now, you'll record a voice dial tag for this contact:
6. Press down once, then press OK to select the phone number.
7. Press down once, then press OK to select Add Voice Dial.
8. Follow the prompts. When you have successfully recorded a voice tag you will hear "[Name] added."
Now, assign a speed dial location:
9. Press down once, then press OK to select Speed Dialing.

10. Press the key corresponding to the speed dial location you want (it should be the same as the contact number you just saved). For example, to assign 2 as the location, press the 2 key. To assign 23 as the speed dial location, press the keys 2 3 in quick succession.

Note: If you wait too long after pressing the first digit of a two-digit location, the phone forgets the first digit. For example, if you wait too long after pressing 2 before you press 3, you will go to location 3 instead of location 23.

11. Press OK to assign the speed dial location to the contact.
Next, classify this contact as business or personal to set the phone to ring differently for these calls.
12. Press up once, then press OK to select Options.
