Taking the following steps will accomplish basically the same thing that
running the repair feature in 98 did.
These steps are done from Internet Options in the Control Panel or from
Tools and than options in IE. They are located in the General Tab.
Note: Unlike in Windows 98, this has no impact on Outlook Express.
1. Clear cookies, remember this will clear your saved passwords, be sure you have them available.
2. Clear files, when doing this a Checkbox will pop up that says clear all off line content, check it and than press Ok. Note; This step is what is called clearing the cache. Depending on how much is in the cache this may take several minutes. During that time the computer will be completely unresponsive.
3. Clear the History. Note: The default setting for number of Days to keep pages in the history is 20. You may wish to set this much lower.
4. Tab to apply and press Enter, last Tab to Ok and press Enter.
Taking these steps will usually substantially improve Internet Explorer's performance, although it may not resolve every problem.
