Sending a FAX Using Windows XP

In order for the following instructions to work your computer must have a Modem and be connected to a phone line.

You can send . In fact, you can (assuming you have a scanner and a FAX modem) and you don't need any third party software to do it. Here's how:

1. Scan the document you want to send and save it in a graphic format.

2. Navigate to the saved document in Windows Explorer and double click it to launch the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer or, if you have associated some other graphics program with the file type, right click the file and select Open with and then choose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer to open the file.

3. In the Picture and Fax Viewer, click the Print button (printer icon) at the bottom or press CTRL+P. This opens the Photo Printing Wizard. Click Next.

4. The file you selected should already have a check mark beside it. If not, or if you want to send a different file, check the one you want to send and click Next.

5. On the Printing Options page, select Fax from the drop-down list. Click Next.
6. Select the layout you want to use. Click Next. This invokes the Send Fax wizard.
7. Enter the recipient's name and number. Click Next.
8. Choose a cover page. Click Next.
9. Schedule the time that you want to send the FAX and choose a priority. Click Next.
10. View the Summary page. If you want to change anything, click the Back button. Otherwise, click Finish.

Now you can check on the status of your scheduled FAX documents by using the Fax Console in Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications | Fax. You'll see the received FAXes in your Inbox and those you've scheduled to send in your Outbox.
