Creating An Application Hot Key

You may easily create a hot key for starting an application in Windows XP by following these steps.

1. Select Start Menu and locate the application you want to be able to open with the hot key. Select it, but don't open it. Make sure that you've chosen the actual program and not merely one of its components.
2. Press the Applications or Context Menu key and arrow to properties, press Enter. Alternatively, press the Applications or Context Menu key. After releasing it press R.
3. Tab to the hot key field, it will indicate none.
4. Choose the letter you wish to use and type it in. Note: Make sure the letter you choose is not all ready in use with another application. For example; Window Eyes uses the W and Jaws the J to open their application.
5. Now Tab to the Apply button and press enter. Last Tab to Ok and press Enter.

You may now use the Alt plus Control and the letter you've chosen to open the application. If you've chosen P than Alt-Control-P would open your application. Note these same steps may also be used in creating a hot key for an URL. Simply select the URL in Favorites and follow the same steps.
